It had been three years since Y/N Moon had lost her father to a long and painful illness.

The pain never fully faded, but she had learned to live with the emptiness.

Her mother, on the other hand, had spent those years in silence, her grief hidden behind a quiet mask.

But Y/N had noticed.

The house had become lonelier, and her mother had withdrawn more and more from the world around her.

But things were about to change.

-•-

It was an ordinary afternoon when Y/N walked into her family’s living room after returning from university, her mind still occupied by the day’s lectures.

Her mother was there, sitting on the couch, talking to a man whose presence immediately caught her attention.

The man was tall, dressed impeccably in a black suit that only emphasized his sharp features and cold demeanor.

His dark eyes held a depth, an intensity that sent a shiver down her spine.

The air around him seemed charged, almost suffocating.

He was the kind of person who commanded attention without saying a word.

Y/N stood frozen in the doorway, unsure of what to do.

Her mother, noticing her entrance, smiled faintly and motioned for her to come closer. “Y/N, come meet him. This is Jeon Jungkook. My boyfriend.”

Y/N’s gaze flickered between her mother and the man who now stood in front of her, his posture stiff and controlled.

There was something unsettling about him, something that didn’t quite sit right.

She nodded politely, extending her hand. “Nice to meet you, Mr. Jeon.”

Jungkook’s gaze never wavered from her face as he took her hand in his.

His grip was firm, almost possessive, and his eyes darkened for a brief moment as if he were examining her like a puzzle he couldn’t quite solve.

“The pleasure’s mine,” he replied in a low, controlled voice.

Y/N quickly withdrew her hand, feeling a strange discomfort in her chest.

She glanced at her mother, who smiled warmly.

“Jungkook and I have been seeing each other for a while now. He’s been such a comfort to me since your father passed.”

The mention of her father made Y/N stiffen. She hadn’t expected her mother to move on so quickly.

But there was something in the way Jungkook looked at her mother—something possessive and calculating—that made Y/N uneasy.

“It’s nice that you’ve found someone,” Y/N said, forcing a smile as she glanced between them. “I’m happy for you.”

Jungkook didn’t say anything more, his gaze now flickering to Y/N’s face as if memorizing her every feature.

It was subtle, but Y/N caught it the way his eyes lingered a little too long, the way his jaw clenched slightly.

Her mother, oblivious to the tension, stood and motioned for them to sit. “I thought we could have dinner together tonight. It’s been so long since we’ve all been in the same room.”

Y/N hesitated but eventually nodded. The unease gnawed at her stomach, but she pushed it aside, trying to focus on the conversation.

Dinner that evening was awkward. Her mother seemed oblivious to the way Jungkook’s gaze kept straying to Y/N whenever she spoke, how his eyes followed her every movement.

Y/N couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off, but she couldn’t pinpoint what it was.

After dinner, Jungkook stood up, his chair scraping softly against the floor. “I have to head out. I’ll see you both tomorrow,” he said, his voice colder than it had been earlier.

As he walked towards the door, he stopped and turned back, his eyes meeting Y/N’s once again.

The brief moment felt like an eternity, as if he were deciding something in his mind.

“Goodnight, Y/N,” he said, his tone more pointed than before. Y/N’s heart skipped a beat. She forced a smile, but it felt like a mask. “Goodnight, Mr. Jeon.”

He nodded once, then left the house, his presence lingering in the air long after he was gone.

That night, as Y/N lay in bed, she couldn’t shake the image of his eyes dark, unreadable, and something else… something she couldn’t quite place.

But what unsettled her the most was how she couldn’t stop thinking about him.

-•-

The morning sun filtered through the curtains of Y/N’s room as she quickly gathered her things for another day of university.

She had barely gotten any sleep the night before, her mind still caught on the unsettling encounter with Jeon Jungkook.

But as the minutes ticked by, she pushed the thoughts aside, knowing she had to focus on her studies.

She left the house, keys in hand, only to be greeted by an unexpected sight.

A sleek black car was parked in front of her house, its tinted windows reflecting the morning light.

Y/N frowned, unsure of who would be arriving at this hour.

Before she could ask, her mother appeared at the door, a soft smile on her face.

“Oh, good morning, Y/N. Jungkook told me he was going to drop you to school today,” she explained cheerfully, her voice laced with an almost innocent excitement.

Y/N blinked, taken aback by the sudden offer. “Jungkook?” she repeated, glancing at the car, her unease from the previous evening slowly creeping back.

Her mother nodded. “Yes, he said it would be no trouble at all. I hope that’s okay with you.”

Y/N hesitated. She hadn’t expected him to offer such a thing, and truth be told, she didn’t really want to be alone with him.

There was something about the way he looked at her that made her uncomfortable. But her mother’s hopeful expression made it hard to refuse.

“I—uh, I guess that’s fine,” she said reluctantly, trying to push down the knot forming in her stomach.

Her mother beamed, oblivious to her discomfort. “Good! He’s been so kind to me lately. I’m really glad you two are getting to know each other.”

With a soft sigh, Y/N walked toward the black car, her steps slower than usual.

As she approached, the passenger side window rolled down, revealing Jeon Jungkook behind the wheel.

He looked as imposing as ever, his cold expression unreadable. His eyes, however, flickered briefly with something—something Y/N couldn’t quite decipher.

“Good morning, Y/N,” he said smoothly, his deep voice almost too calm for someone who had only just met her.

Y/N nodded stiffly. “Morning, Mr. Jeon.” She paused for a moment, then added, “Thank you for offering to take me to school.”

Jungkook’s lips curved into a small smile one that didn’t reach his eyes. “It’s no trouble. Hop in.”

Y/N hesitated just for a moment longer before opening the door and sliding into the passenger seat.

The interior of the car was as immaculate as everything else about him sleek, dark, and controlled. The silence that settled between them was thick, almost suffocating, as the car began to move down the street.

The tension was palpable. Y/N felt the weight of his gaze on her, even as she stared out the window, trying to keep her focus on the passing scenery. She could feel him watching her every move, the same way he had last night when he looked at her.

She shifted uncomfortably in her seat, finally breaking the silence. “So, you’re… you’re really my stepfather now?” she asked quietly, the words feeling strange on her tongue.

Jungkook’s eyes flicked to her for a brief moment before he responded, his voice low. “Technically, yes.”

His gaze returned to the road, but Y/N couldn’t help but notice the sharpness in his expression, as if he were weighing her every word.

“Do you… do you think things will be different?” she asked, her voice tinged with uncertainty.

Jungkook’s lips twitched at the corners, his expression cold yet oddly contemplative. “I think the important thing is that we learn to respect each other.”

Y/N wasn’t sure what to make of that. There was something in the way he said it, something that felt too rehearsed, too controlled. She could feel the walls he had built around himself, even in this simple conversation.

The rest of the ride was filled with nothing but the hum of the engine and the occasional sound of traffic.

Y/N tried to focus on the mundane details of her surroundings, but her thoughts kept drifting back to the way Jungkook had looked at her the night before his gaze dark, intense, and unyielding.

Before long, they reached the gates of the university. Jungkook pulled over, the car slowing to a stop.

He didn’t look at her right away, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly as if contemplating something.

Finally, he turned his head toward her, his eyes locking onto hers.

“I’ll pick you up after class,” he said, his voice steady but firm.

Y/N blinked, her heart skipping a beat at the sudden possessiveness in his tone. “Uh, that’s not necessary,” she said quickly, her unease growing. “I can take the bus or—”

“I said I’ll pick you up,” he interrupted, his voice leaving no room for argument.

The finality in his words sent a chill down her spine, but before she could say anything more, Jungkook was already pulling away, the car disappearing into the morning traffic.

Y/N stood there for a moment, her mind reeling from the encounter. What kind of man was Jeon Jungkook? Little did she know, this was only the beginning of the twisted journey that awaited her.

To be continued……….
